Varna Kadambari
Founder and CEO

Ms. Kadambari is the founder and CEO of Medarcus.   In a career that has spanned across 20 years, Varna has gained considerable integration experience with EHR implementations and HL7 Interfaces, program management, and leadership skills.  Her prior portfolio of clients include Catholic Health Systems, Baylor Healthcare, Community Health Systems (CHS),  and Dignity Health. Most recently, Varna has lead projects for the County of San Bernardino CA Department of Public Health and Arrowhead Regional Medical Center.  Varna is well versed in the full life-cycle of a typical deployment from the procurement, implementation and go-lives.   

James Hoover
Co-Founder, Executive VP

James Hoover is a seasoned technology executive and serial entrepreneur. Throughout his career James has launched several successful technology-consulting firms in the past and most recently joined the founding team of Medarcus, a Healthcare IT services firm based out of Washington, D.C.

James is also the General Partner of Taveekan Capital; a small private equity fund focused on IT consulting firms in the Washington DC Federal market, specialty finance, and healthcare IT.

As CEO, James founded, built and sold several IT consulting, recruiting and software product firms.  His firms have serviced clients such as Booz Allen Hamilton, Lockheed Martin, Northrup Grumman, SAIC, VERITAS, IBM, BEA, Oracle, Digital Equipment Corporation, Ford Aerospace, and many others.

Prior, James was an active member of Professional Pricing Society and holds the Certified Pricer designation from the Society. James managed many revenue management projects during for clients as diverse from Shell Oil, Ryder Trucks, International Harvester, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Plantronics.

Formerly as a software engineer James built a diverse range of products from high-volume mail server applications, visualization software, multi-media tools, databases, and analytical applications. He has worked as a technical consultant for, among others.

James holds a B.S. cum laude in Computer Science from Randolph-Macon College, a M.S. in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and is currently working on his M.S. in Finance from Johns Hopkins (expected 2020)

James is the proud father of four boys and resides in Great Falls, VA. When not building companies, James enjoys international travel, learning new languages and cultures.

Dr. Ali Shafizadeh, MD, FACHE, MPP
National Director of Healthcare Operations

Ali Shefizadeh, MD, MPP has over ten years of leadership experience as the Director, COO, and CEO of hospitals and multi-site ambulatory care systems. He is an operator and strategist with strong project management experience, including in the implementation of health informatics platforms that bring together IT and clinical leaders to provide more focused, patient centered, and cost effective solutions. 

Ali is board certified in healthcare management by, and a fellow of, the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). He received the majority of his education and clinical training at the David Geffen School of Medicine, Harbor UCLA Medical Center (level 1 county trauma center), and the renowned Cedars Sinai Medical Center. He received his master’s degree with an emphasis on health policy and management, as well as his bachelor’s degree in political science from UCLA.

In his spare time, Ali appreciates traveling internationally, public speaking, and spending time with his family.

James Wee
National Director, Revenue Cycle Solutions

James has an extensive healthcare IT career spanning 33 plus years.  His introduction to the MedSeries4 (Cerner MS4) application began back in 1984 working as an implementation specialist.  He took an IT Director position in 1990 with the Legacy Health System in Portland, Oregon and worked there for 12 years.  He became a consultant after that and continued for 15 years working in various roles. James gained a great deal of experience and knowledge in the healthcare IT and the Revenue Cycle arena, and his latest contribution was to the Dignity Health EHR Implementation for last 7 years.  James has an undergraduate degree in Accounting and an MBA degree with emphasis in the International Business Management

Layton Welborn
Chief Technology Officer

Layton Welborn, Chief Architect of the Medarcus legacy archive solution MA2Ô and is one of our Sure PatientÔ developers.  Layton holds experience that includes enterprise wide data conversions which include clinical and financial data from legacy EHR’s and clinical systems to most major EHR’s.  Layton’s most recent experience is supporting Medarcus clients nationwide and with Scripps Healthcare based in San Diego, California.  Layton is Epic Bridges Certified.

Dana Ahern-Nguyen, RHIA
National Health Information Manager

With over 20 years of experience in the HIM industry, Dana has a unique skill set, education and experience merging medical record fundamentals, regulatory knowledge and electronic health record (EHR) technology.  As a proven leader, working with varied clientele, she is progressive in the health record technology and HIM operational arena.
